Banderas United launches multi-city tour focused on empowerment, leadership, and opportunity.
The excitement surrounding girls flag football was on full display in Salinas as more than 160 young athletes participated in the inaugural Banderas United Girls Flag Football Camp on June 8.
The event earned front-page coverage in The Salinas Californian, highlighting both the tremendous turnout and the growing momentum behind one of the fastest-growing sports in the nation. As girls flag football prepares for its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, opportunities for young women to compete, develop leadership skills, and pursue educational pathways through sport continue to expand.
Presented by Her Is Us Foundation in partnership with the Reggie Stephens Foundation, NORCAL Flag Football, and Alisal High School Girls Flag Football, the free camp brought together athletes from across the region for a day of skill development, mentorship, leadership training, and community engagement.
More than a dozen coaches led participants through drills, competitions, and instructional sessions designed to help athletes build confidence both on and off the field. The event also connected young women with mentors and role models who encouraged them to pursue their goals through athletics, education, and personal growth.
Former NFL player and Reggie Stephens Foundation founder Reggie Stephens attended the event and shared his enthusiasm for the opportunities now available to young women through flag football.
The Salinas camp marks the first stop of the 2026 Banderas United Tour, which will travel throughout California, Arizona, and Mexico this summer. The series is designed to empower girls ages 7-18 through elite coaching, mentorship, leadership development, educational resources, and meaningful community connections.
At the Reggie Stephens Foundation, we believe in creating pathways for youth to discover their potential and pursue their dreams. We are proud to support initiatives like Banderas United that are opening doors for the next generation of athletes, leaders, and changemakers.
With 160 girls taking the field in Salinas, the movement is already making an impact—and this is only the beginning.
